The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require every employer and self-employed person to make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the health and safety risks to employees and others not in their employment in order to put in place appropriate control measures.
The course will begin by looking at the reasons for conducting a risk assessment and the main legislations relating to this. You will identify the techniques for collecting evidence and the possible limitations to this, identifying health and safety hazards, who may be harmed and how. From this you can calculate an appropriate risk rating and factors affecting the likelihood of harm and the severity.
You will identify and evaluate existing control methods and be able to propose additional control measures. Applying a hierarchy of controls, revising a risk rating and recording the findings of a risk assessment.
Finally making recommendations based on your findings, reviewing and revising a risk assessment.
